Whiskey In The Jar by Thin Lizzy was released as a single in November 1972 and introduced the world to Phil Lynott & Gary Moore.
Learn how to play Whiskey In The Jar by Thin Lizzy. Thought I would do something special for St. Patericks Day this year. Well who was one of the best bands to come out of Ireland, of course Thin Lizzy.
Whiskey In The Jar is a song taken from a compilation album by Thin Lizzy, originally released in 1996, covering the early part of the band’s career. There are various versions of this album, released by different record companies, with the same track listing but with different covers.
“Whiskey in the Jar” is sung with many variants on locations and names, including the Grateful Dead version, a version by The Dubliners (which is often sung in Irish traditional music sessions around the world), a rock version sung by Thin Lizzy and a heavy metal version sung by Metallica.
There is also a song about Irish troops in the American Civil War called “We’ll Fight for Uncle Sam”, which is sung in the same tune of “Whiskey in the Jar”.
