In this session we will look at the pentatonic scale and in particular the Am Pentatonic scale.
The minor pentatonic scale tends to be used more often than the major pentatonic. This is probably down to the fact that the minor pentatentonic work over not only a minor chord but it sounds good over a dominant chord.
Below we can see the 5 position for the minor pentatonic scale over the fretboard.
R – m3 – 4 – 5 – b7
You will notice that i have placed position 5 before the position 1. This is to show that the scale positions move both direction in the same sequence.
Practice each position and then try playing the scale in different keys.
